Brunel is currently searching for a Chief Hydrologist for direct hire with our client in Miami, Arizona.

In this critical role, you will provide specialized technical management and modeling of the hydrology at our client’s mine sites. You will assist with water-related permitting, hydrogeologic monitoring/evaluation and managing/creating a hydrology model to test a range of water supply/management scenarios for supporting production and other projects. You will also organize, analyze, interpret, and maintain data on water systems and managing geotechnical risk.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures
  • Identify and develop strategic water management to provide assured water supplies aligned with Production Plan.
  • Responsible for overall mine water modeling, supporting mine water management at all site facilities, including the open pit, tailings facilities, dump leach and waste rock dumps.
  • Responsible for the effective management and control of geotechnical hazards and risks including but not limited to rock fall hazard inspections and analysis.
  • Development of Ground Control Management Plans (GCMP): Design and implementation of hazard mitigation and post-failure rehabilitation plans related to geotechnical issues
  • Determine design criteria for pit slope and waste rock dumps along with conducting regular inspections and stability assessments.
  • Provide input into long-term planning (Resource Development Plan, 5-year plan, etc.) and Short-term planning (Year Budget, Forecast and 3-month plan).
  • Determine the impact of local hydrogeological conditions on mining operations and the hydrogeologic impacts on the geomechanics of pit slopes.
  • Responsible for the implementation, management and maintenance of hydrology and geotechnical monitoring systems: piezometers, slope stability radars, prisms among other related instrumentation.
  • This role is generally 40% office environment and 60% field environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5-10+ years of experience in the Hydrology field
  • BS Degree in Geosciences, Geology or Hydrology required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Certified Professional preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental rules, regulations, and relations.
  • Knowledge of GoldSim and/or Groundwater Vistas is preferred
  • Ability to communicate and work all levels of the organization, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Familiarity with a union work environment
  • Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
